The Meat Canner

Last night we went to the meat canners. For those of you who don't know about that, the Mennonite church cans meat every year and sends that meat all over the world to feed the hungry. Last night they did turkey meat (it's cheaper than beef and not every country accepts beef) Here are some photos of what we did.

Harmony looking adorable in her hair net.

The first step of the meat is to be ground into bite size portions. After that these guys are carrying it into the canning room (really just the back of the semi where the canner is located.

Here is Reggie stirring the turkey as it is going through its initial cooking phase. It will be cooked again while it does the canning process.

Here is the man who travels around with the canner removing the cans from the pressure cooker. We missed the photos of the kids shoving the meat into cans and putting the lids on.

Then the cans go back inside and they remove them from the basket, wash them, and dry them off to prepare for the labels.

Here are the little old ladies whose job it is to put the glue on the labels.

This man checks to make sure that everything is correct on the label and that the can is not damaged.

And there you have it, canned turkey thigh meat! Enjoy!!!!

Yeah! Updates to the Miller's blog! Give us a ring when you're going to be in the Dallas area again. 214 257 8835. We'll be traveling over Christmas, but other than that week we're around! By the way, we're expecting an addition to our family. Well, I'm doing most of the expecting, but you know how that goes. Everyone takes credit, but you do all the work!
