Off with the old and on with the new
Marcela and I finally made it back in to see the Dr. and 2 hours later we finally left the waiting room and saw him in person. He cut the cast off to see how her incision was doing and also to put on a new lighter cast.
The tech that actually cut the cast off said she was the first child patient he had ever had who wasn't afraid of the saw. She was pretty interested in the whole thing.
Finally the old cast was off. It did take quite a bit of finagling since there was a lot of gauze at the location of the incision.
This is the incision. He said it is stitched inside the the outside just has the bandages on it. She moved her elbow when he asked her to but she said it hurt quite a bit. Hopefully as it heals it will not hurt so when she goes in for physical therapy that it won't be so painful.
This is her surgeon. He was putting on the fiberglass cast. She couldn't pick a single color so they brought her teddy bears holding balloons. She loves it! It's so much lighter and she has more hand movement. More good news is that although the pins won't be out for up to 6 months, her cast comes off the 3rd of October! We are pretty excited that it will be only 5 weeks instead of 6. So after 3 hours in the office we made it out with a new cast and a new outlook on life!! Wahoo!!!!!!!
