Jungle Supper

Bamboo is an amazing thing. We relied on it heavily for our meal. We used it for fire wood, the guide very easily started the fire with it, no matches. As you can see here we used it as a cooking pot. A small slit was made we filled the hollow bamboo with rice and water and let it cook.

After a time we took it off and there it was. We also used it as a plate or bowl. We also used bamboo to catch some of our food.

In the Philippines there are some of the smallest bats. During the day they find bamboo that a bug as made a hole in and they use the hole to get in and sleep. You just need to find the correct bamboo shoots with bats living in them. We only found one bat. Other groups found 10 or more bats living in sections of bamboo, so they had a feast while we had to share our bat.

The guide cooked our bat over the fire while he was still alive. It looks like the guide is just shaking the stick but the bat is flapping his wings and didn't die until he was over the flame. I didn't get to try any. By the last day, my adventurous spirit had left me and I wasn't up to trying bat.
