We decided we needed to at least buy a balut once while we lived here. This is the man who sells them in our area. He rides around on his bicycle and honks a horn but never yells anything. He mostly comes at night. I've never seen anyone actually eat one although we see shells sometimes in the morning so we know that people have eaten them during the evening.

All the eggs were in that can in front of him. It was amazing but the egg was incredibly hot! It cost 40pesos which is about 80 cents.

"Fertilized duck
eggs are kept warm in the sun and stored in baskets to retain warmth. After nine days, the eggs are held to a light to reveal the embryo inside. Approximately eight days later the balut are ready to be cooked, sold, and eaten. Vendors sell cooked balut out of buckets of
sand (used to retain warmth) accompanied by small packets of salt. " taken from Wikipedia
Here is a short video of us opening our balut. Needless to say we did not actually eat our balut but rather threw it away and took the bag right out to the dumpsters outside our gate as it smelled quite bad to us.
